The D.154.2 armchair holds a rich history, originally designed for Villa Planchart, a project commissioned by Ponti’s private clients, Anala and Armando Planchart. Breaking away from traditional Italian design, the armchair utilized innovative materials such as a rigid polyurethane shell and a soft polyurethane counter-shell, setting a new standard for comfort and modern aesthetics.

“Anala and Armando, you have given life to a fable, a fable like everyone dreams of.”

— from a Gio Ponti letter to his Villa Planchart clients, Anala and Armando Planchart

Part of our Heritage Collection since 2015, D.154.2 is one of 16 designs exclusively reproduced by Molteni&C in partnership with the Gio Ponti archive. The Compasso d’Oro Career Award is a testament to the enduring genius of this legendary Italian designer, whose legacy we proudly preserve for future generations.

To commemorate this significant achievement, Molteni&C has produced two D.154.2 armchairs in the original colors envisioned by Gio Ponti for Villa Planchart in the 1950s: sand and green. One of these special re-editions will be donated to Fundación Anala y Armando Planchart in Caracas, Venezuela, while the other will be given to ADI (Italian Design Association), bringing Gio Ponti’s creative vision to life once again for the enjoyment of each institution’s visitors.

We are immensely proud of the Gio Ponti legacy seen through the D.154.2 armchair, which we uphold as an icon in the Molteni&C Heritage Collection.
