Dieser Armlehnstuhl ist Bestandteil einer der Projekte, die Gio Ponti mit Herzblut verfolgte: Die Villa der Kunstsammler Planchart in Caracas von 1953-57. Er gehört zu der Gio Ponti Collection unter Leitung von Molteni&C und der künstlerischen Federführung von Studio Cerri & Associati.
Heute hat der einladende Sessel eine Verschalung aus steifem Polyurethan und eine Innenverkleidung aus weichem Polyurethan und ein Kissen. Er ist mit den Stoffen und Ledern der Palette von Molteni&C bezogen und bietet die Möglichkeit, die Elemente zu differenzieren. Dieser "love chair" gewinnt 2016 den maßgeblichen Wallpaper Design Awards und wird zur Stilikone von Molteni&C.

D.154.2 was reissued by Molteni&C in 2015. Faithful to the original, enveloping shape, the re-edition of Gio Ponti’s iconic design is like a cosy shell, has a rigid polyurethane frame, a soft polyurethane counter-frame and a cushion, and is upholstered in the Molteni&C textile range, with the option of differentiating the three component parts. In 2016 this armchair won the prestigious Wallpaper Design Awards and became a Molteni&C icon. Imagined in weather-proof materials for exterior environments, D.154.2 was a featured design in the first Molteni&C Outdoor Collection, launched in 2023. In 2024, D.154.2 won the Compasso d’Oro Career Award for Products.

The Icon of Villa Planchart

The iconic armchair was created for the Villa Planchart in Caracas (1953–1957), the private residence of art collectors Anala and Armando Planchart, which they commissioned Gio Ponti to design from top to bottom as both the architect and the interior designer. Now a foundation and a museum, Villa Planchart is a testament to Gio Ponti’s brilliance and the Planchart’s passionate devotion to art and design. To celebrate the Compasso d’Oro Career Award for Products for Gio Ponti’s D.154.2 and perpetuate the designer’s contribution to the culture of quality living, Molteni&C has donated two special re-editions of the chair in the original colors envisioned by Ponti in the 1950’s — one to Fundación Anala y Armando Planchart in Caracas, Venezuela, and the other to ADI (Italian Design Association).

Giovanni Ponti, genannt Gio (Mailand, 18. November 1891 – Mailand, 16. September 1979), wird als einer der Meister der italienischen Architektur gehandelt und war ebenfalls einer der wichtigsten Designer und Essayisten des 20. Jahrhunderts. Abgesehen von den großen architektonischen Werken, die seine einzigartige Handschrift tragen, schuf er eine umfassende Produktion in der Einrichtungsbranche, wie auch seine drei Mailänder Wohnungen bezeugen, die vollständig “alla Ponti” möbliert sind: die in via Randaccio im Jahr 1925, Casa Laporte im Jahr 1926 in via Brin und die letzte 1957 in via Dezza, als “Manifest” seines häuslichen Designs.
