Design Jean Nouvel

Its secret lies in the thick top shelf, which, fixed to the wall or ceiling, contains a system of steel braces, which enables the weight to be distributed evenly along the whole surface of the bookcase.

The architectural design approach of Jean Nouvel led to the creation of Graduate.

His idea was to create a modular hanging bookcase, distinguished by lightness and simplicity. Attached to the shelf are slender steel tie rods, each with numbered notches to which the other shelves are anchored. The shelves too are technologically advanced: the core is made of plywood while the outer coating is made of anodized natural or black aluminium.

Design

Jean Nouvel

Jean Nouvel was born in 1945 in Fumel, France. His approach to design comes from a need to create objects for his own architectures. This approach created the Less table which was produced by Molteni&C. for the headquarters of the Cartier Foundation. The Ateliers Jean Nouvel design activities reflect a desire to develop an “architectural design”.

“The elementarity I seek has nothing to do with minimalism. Even when it goes in for a bare minimum of material, design is no less creative”
