Designer outdoor furniture combines functionality and aesthetics with practical necessity. In the case of outdoor armchairs, comfort is a top priority in the relationship between architecture and nature.
Molteni&C outdoor lounge chairs and armchairs are distinguished by their curved, enveloping lines and the use of innovative and durable materials. In collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives, Molteni&C has also faithfully reconstructed one of the rare pieces of furniture Gio Ponti designed for outdoor use: the D.150.5 chaise longue, designed for the cruise ship Andrea Doria in 1952. Another valuable collaboration also resulted in the outdoor version of the iconic D.154.2 armchair. Metal or teak structures characterize the composition of the garden armchairs designed by Vincent Van Duysen.
The curved, enveloping lines of the solid teak frame and the macro-scale weave-edged pattern are the identifying elements of the Landmark Collection, also present in the Palinfrasca armchair. These themes persist in the Vincent Van Duysen-designed patio armchair and, thanks to the more compact proportions, become even clearer and more expressive. The curvilinear backrest enhances the idea of protective and welcoming comfort. Just as in the modular sofa elements, the backrest can have a teak or EVA polyurethane weave in the olive green shade.
Vincent Van Duysen also signs the Timeout Collection, which offers memorable modern outdoor armchairs. The band of burnished, painted aluminum defines the shape of the backrest and sled bases. A dense, handcrafted polypropylene rope cover is woven onto the metal frame and is available in anthracite, olive green and desert yellow.
Among Molteni&C's comfortable outdoor armchair furniture, one cannot fail to mention the designs inspired by the work of Gio Ponti, carried out in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives. The D.150.5 chaise longue is Molteni&C's faithful reconstruction of one of the rare pieces of furniture Gio Ponti designed for the outdoors and, to be precise, for the Andrea Doria cruise ship. The continuous line of the side design unites the back, seat, armrest, and footrest in a single line, enhancing the elongated profile of the outdoor lounge chair. The use of solid teak highlights the production qualities of fine cabinet making, an expression of the highest quality of workmanship.
The D.154.2 armchair is one of Gio Ponti's most iconic and representative pieces, and was also made in an outdoor version. The careful study of materials and technical performance guarantee not only respect for the precious original design, but also the durability that characterizes all Molteni&C products. The essence of the seat originates from the subtle play of curved lines and the harmonious contrast between rigid and soft elements, making it timeless.
