Held from 18 to 23 April in the pavilions of the Rho Fiera Milano Center, the Salone del Mobile 2023 was naturally one of the most expected events of the year for Molteni, which took part in the event for the sixty-first time, once again confirming as one of the excellences of Made in Italy that being appreciated also abroad.
The long queues created to visit the Molteni stand were further proof of the interest and curiosity towards the novelties proposed by the brand, which for the 2023 Collection wanted to focus on a project that combines the past with the new. Under the artistic direction of the Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen, Molteni has in fact proposed a modern reinterpretation of the ancient Domus Romana, giving a role of absolute importance also to outdoor spaces.
The final result is a project that is based on a close connection between indoor and outdoor, between spaces dedicated to private and to those designed for sharing, or for "social life" as it was once interpreted. The cornerstone is certainly the open courtyard, a source of large quantities of light that illuminate the indoor spaces, of water and above all an opportunity to resume contact with nature.
THE NEW PROPOSALS BY MOLTENI AT THE 2023 MILAN DESIGN WEEK
The 2023 Milan Furniture Fair marked Molteni's sixty-one participation, continuing a streak that has been going on since the very first edition since "my grandfather was one of the founders", recalled Giulia Molteni, Marketing and Communication Director of the Molteni Group.
To once again celebrate a fair that "has great emotional value", Molteni tried to bring a concept of home that seems out of time, such as that of the ancient Domus Romana, into a modern and contemporary dimension. The precious outdoor space is in perfect harmony with the indoor environments, thanks to a continuity of choices of materials and shapes, which are renovated in a modern key.
In this way, the outdoor spaces become an almost natural continuation of the domestic environment, inviting those who live there to discover the courtyard, a place to live and get in tune with the surrounding nature.
CONCEPT AND DESIGN OF MOLTENI FURNITURE
For its 2023 Collection, Molteni invited several guests to the company's production heart, in Brianza, in an event that effectively inaugurated the Milan Design Week to demonstrate in person the project developed by Vincent Van Duysen, who inspired by the Milanese house designed by Pier Giulio Magistretti in 1933 to renovate the concept of the ancient Roman Domus in a modern key, creating a proficient mix of modern and classic elements.
The Belgian architect wanted to restore the complete importance of the courtyard, which became the central element both for its elegant portico and for the opportunity to carve out moments of leisure in nature, but also for its crucial role around which all the other domestic, public and private developed environments.
Visiting the various spaces of the Domus means launching on a journey to discover Molteni's design innovations, which embellish the ancient atmosphere that one breathes: among these there are the Augusto sofa and the Mateo table by Vincent Van Duysen, the Porta Volta armchair by Herzog & de Meuron or the Archway sideboard by Rodolfo Dordoni.
Lastly, Roberto Ruspoli and his work “Il Sogno di Virgilio” take care of making the environment even more magical, which occupies the walls of the Domus and evokes the room of the young poet, serving as a backdrop for the products of the Molteni 2023 Collection which can be discovered in person also in our showroom in Corso Europa 2, Milan.
