“We've opted for refined materials that harken back to the 1930s. This collection is slightly more decorative than previous years, adding an extra layer of sophistication to the Molteni&C universe”
says Van Duysen.
Crafted from a diverse palette of materials, including solid wood, glass, leather, and metal, the collection is full of exquisite details. Van Duysen's keen eye for detail is evident in the collection's neutral tones, burnished metals, and transparent glass, creating a timeless yet contemporary aesthetic.
The public exposition welcomed guests into a dining area featuring the Mateo table by Vincent Van Duysen and Porta Volta chairs by Herzog & de Meuron. From there, the pathway journey lead through separate rooms where the new collection came to life, showcasing pieces such as the Augusto sofa, Logos wall unit and Hector bookshelves by Van Duysen; the Due Foglie, D.154.2 and Continuum armchairs by Gio Ponti; as well as the Arc table by Foster+Partners and many other indoor pieces.
Representing the Molteni&C Outdoor Collection was the Sway series by Yabu Pushelberg and the Fairmount table, Cobea and Petalo chairs and Picea coffee table by Vincent Van Duysen.
Highlights include the enveloping, round version of the Augusto modular sofa by Vincent Van Duysen, the VVD kitchen with its updated features for 2024 including red marble countertops, the complete Outdoor collection, and much more.
Coinciding with the brand’s 90th anniversary festivities, Salone del Mobile.Milano was a chance to experience the brand in a new light, culminating in the ‘An Italian Design Story’ room. Unfolding like a cinematic museum, the space brought the Molteni&C past and present together in an exquisite telling of the story that began in 1934, celebrating the relationship with the design protagonists that collaborated with the company through the years. The space also offered a preview of Molteni Mondo, a cinematic view of the world of Molteni&C in book form, published by Rizzoli NY with creative direction by Beda Achermann, photographs by Jeff Burton and editorial curations by Spencer Bailey.
