The installation incorporates historic iconography to create a tongue-in-cheek scene that creates an unconventional dialog with the collection.
“Imagine Mona Lisa, having taken a mini vacation from the Louvre, ready to mingle at the Molteni&C Paris Flagship Store”
explains designer Ron Gilad.
As an animation of the Mona Lisa teases visitors from behind the Augusto sofa by Vincent Van Duysen, Teorema, a sculptural work by Ron Gilad is adorned with a can of tomato soup in a subtle nod to Andy Warhol’s famous painting, as well as in reaction to the January 2024 protests that saw cans of soup launched at Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece.
Designed to spark conversations, provoke ideas, and channel the Designer’s Days spirit of play, this installation will be on view at the Molteni&C Paris Flagship Store May 29–31, 2024.
