Vincent Van Duysen's Mateo table ushers in new possibilities in 2024, boasting a distinctive central pedestal characterized by a cylindrical and conical shape, vertically grooved at its base. Enriched with fresh compositional options and new sizes (300, 350 and 400cm), the table stands atop a gently flaring curved base, ensuring stability while adding an element of surprise.

Offered in two versions—a round and an oval—the conical base seamlessly integrates into diverse interiors. In addition to classic finishes like coffee oak, sunrise oak, glossy lacquers, and burnished metal, the conical base now features a mirror steel option.

“The construction of the central pedestal draws inspiration from the solidity of a company and its 90-year history—deeply anchored roots upon which the leap into the future rests.”

Available in diverse sizes, heights, and configurations, the Mateo table caters to different family dynamics and social gatherings, serving as a focal point for creating enduring traditions. It comes in both dining and lounge versions, offering a range of sizes to suit different settings.

The dining variant boasts round tops ranging from 140 to 200 cm in diameter, along with oval options at 220 and 250 cm, supplemented by a grand 400 cm version for spacious environments and large gatherings.

“When making the central pedestal,” explains Van Duysen, “I was inspired by the solidity of a company with almost 90 years of history behind it. Roots that are deeply anchored, and which support its dynamic approach to the future.”

Reflecting the designer’s architectural background, Mateo’s structure incorporates an internal frame reinforced by a lacquered metal rod, ensuring complete stability without compromising aesthetics.

This reinvention of dining for contemporary homes marries scalable proportions with a minimalist aesthetic, resulting in a timeless piece destined to be cherished for years to come.

Vincent Van Duysen

Vincent Van Duysen was born in 1962, in Lokeren, Belgium and graduated in architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint-Lucas, in Ghent. From 1986 to 1989 he worked in Milan and Brussels. He opened his own studio in Antwerp, in 1990 focusing on architecture and interior design. The relationship between interior design and architecture in his work is profound. Furnishings and accessories are designed with an architectural perspective that is not limited by form, but is expressed with a careful perception of interior space and its relationship to the exterior architecture. By interpreting architecture and redefining its proportions, Van Duysen creates objects of great purity and simplicity that still retain a concrete character and solid form.
