Molteni&C Invites Cabana Magazine to Reinterpret the Monk Armchair in a Limited Edition

Molteni&C Invites Cabana Magazine to Reinterpret the Monk Armchair in a Limited Edition

share:

To celebrate the reedition of the iconic Monk armchair by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in the 2025 Collection, we invited Cabana Magazine to give their distinctive mark to the design for an exclusive limited edition.

For Cabana, the challenge was clear: to preserve Molteni&C’s modernist spirit, avoiding any decorative applications of a floral or ethnic nature, while still introducing Cabana’s unmistakable identity.

While the brand is synonymous with "decoration" and aesthetic research, Cabana chose a refined and conceptual approach for this project.

The armchair’s American walnut frame supports a natural hide leather backrest that features a Cabana-designed, laser-cut motif inspired by Viennese cane weaving. The motif reveals a contrasting red panel behind it for visual depth and a vibrant finish.

Drawing inspiration from the great masters of 20th-century design — Pierre Jeanneret, Marcel Breuer, and also Thonet — the Cabana design brings a graphic texture that harmoniously dialogues with the armchair’s clean lines.

This collaboration celebrates the encounter between two worlds, the formal purity of modernism and Cabana’s sophisticated material interpretation, in a unique expression of timeless elegance.

The limited-edition Monk armchair x Cabana Magazine design is now on view in the Molteni&C London Flagship Store and New York Flagship Store, as well as at Palazzo Molteni in Milan.
