Ca’n Molteni Mallorca: Made in Italy, Set in Spain
Signature pieces from the Molteni&C Collection enhance the sense of place of a quintessential Mallorcan villa.
In Mallorqui, the local Catalan dialect spoken in Mallorca, “ca’n” means “home of”, much like “casa” does in Italian. Created in collaboration with Espacio Home Design, the Ca’n Molteni Mallorca campaign channels the Molteni&C culture of quality living to enhance a contemporary Mallorcan villa. Set in the rustic charm of the local Mediterranean landscape, the Molteni&C Outdoor Collection serves as the opening act, defining the villa’s vast terraces with thoughtfully designed opportunities to press pause and enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle lived slowly outside, in nature.
A quiet corner of the gardens is where the Boboli chairs and Picea small table by Vincent Van Duysen benefit from the soft warmth of the sun and the gentle shade of an olive tree at alternating intervals throughout the day. Crafted from teak wood and polypropylene rope, Boboli’s sleek, rounded frame embraces a nautical inspiration, translated into a refined blend of natural and durable materials crafted to withstand the elements.
In 100% ceramic, the Picea small table is an unobtrusive addition to the designed space, an organic surface on which to place a book, a journal and a pen, a mug of coffee, or a glass of chilled wine of Spanish origin. By nature of being lightweight, both Boboli and Picea lend themselves to being displaced and rearranged to chase more sun or shade.
Under full sun is where the Sway sofa system by Yabu Pushelberg and the Petalo armchair by Vincent Van Duysen are best experienced. Creating a design scape characterized by comfort and sophistication, these pieces complement one another with aplomb thanks to their curvilinear shapes and harmonious compositions. As a modular outdoor sofa, Sway expands the possibilities for al fresco lounging while Petalo helps create a balanced aesthetic with its poetic, high-rising backrest.
The Molteni&C Outdoor concept of bringing indoor comforts outside in the open air is evident in the Sway sofa’s outstanding craftsmanship. The teak wood and burnished metal frame uphold an intricately woven rope backrest, all of which embrace abundant cushions upholstered in breathable, weather-proof fabric. Similarly, Petalo stands on a merlot-colored aluminum base, detailed with the same polypropylene rope motif as Van Duysen’s Boboli chair, in a nautical nod to timeless moments in the sun.
As we step toward the villa’s indoor environments, the Cleo sofa and Louisa coffee tables by Vincent Van Duysen along with the Cinnamon armchair by Naoto Fukasawa bring warmth to the grand volumes of an enclosed courtyard. The dining room showcases the masterfully crafted silhouette of the Porta Volta chair by Herzog & de Meuron creating an inviting scene around the table. And in the peace and serenity of the bedroom, the Aldgate bed by Rodolfo Dordoni faces the D.847.1 desk by Gio Ponti in a pristine finish to this dreamscape of a villa imagined in the Molteni&C art of living.
